Exciting first game between the Blue Eagles and the Green Archers. Well worth the money paid to scalpers. Ateneo convincingly won 73-79.

Great 1st season matchup between the UE Red Warriors and the UST Growling Tigers.

Observations:

• Jervy Cruz had 20+ points and 20+ rebounds after the game… and thats with a still recovering pulled hamstring… looks like its going to be another MVP trophy for his trophy case
• Somebody should tell Paul Lee that there is no trash talking in UAAP Basketball, because it cost him 2 technical fouls and an ejection in the 3rd Quarter… or at least he shouldn’t do it within earshot of the ref’s *snicker* I think his ejection also helped UST claw back from the double digit hole UE put them in.
• Thiele and Espiritu are still the same rebounding demons that they are, except Thiele has become more active in scoring
• Lousy 3 point shooting for UST this game, must be opening jitters
• A lot of travelling and double dribble calls… opening jitters or the refs have better eye sight this season?
• Japs Cuan’s free throw shooting has improved… Goodbye Hack a Japs… still no 3 point shooting though… DLSZ alum, Jeric Fortuna, played backup for him….tough first game for him having to matchup against Arellano and Martinez
• Lot of air balls in the fourth from UST… some mightily tired players…

Prior to the 2008 Nike Summer League Finals match between UE and ADMU. They announced the winners of the Mythical Five Team. They were:

The Ateneo Blue Eagles started slow and trailed most of the game against UE. Despite UE’s effort to bury them with run after run that thwarted ADMU’s own run, they finally buckled down and squeaked past UE. Methodically they chipped away at UE’s lead with great plays from inside and out.

With 26 secs remaining in the fourth quarter, Iceman, Chris Tiu coldly curled off a pick and buried a long jumper to get the lead for Ateneo. Ateneo had 2 fouls to give so they fouled each inbound to waste away UE’s clock.
